On Wednesday evening it will be revealed who will become the new head coach of the Lithuanian national team. The Executive Committee of the Lithuanian Football Federation will choose one of the three candidates - Csaba Laszlo, Valdas Ivanauskas or Liudas Rumbutis.
First, an attempt will be made to reach a consensus, and if that fails, a decision will be made by the 11 members voting.
Unofficially, the Scottish Cup winner with Edinburgh "Hearts", Ivanauskas, is considered a favorite, but there are rumors that a significant number of members support the foreign specialist - Csaba Laszlo, a Hungarian with German citizenship.
It is believed that a coach known for his communication skills would improve the image of the national team, tarnished after the fiasco of the European Championship qualifying cycle. In addition, he meets the main requirements: to live in Lithuania permanently, work with young players, invite players from the "A league" to the national team, rather than just looking for players seeking success in foreign countries.
Since Laszlo is supported by influential football figures, he is considered to have better chances on the eve of the elections. Ivanauskas' plans are also seen as ambitious, while Rumbutis' chances are more theoretical.
Both football fans and experts support Laszlo, who was chosen as the best coach in Hungary and Scotland this year: in a survey conducted by "EuroFootball.com" 70% of respondents voted for him. Ivanauskas received 14% of the votes, while Rumbutis got 3%.
