Eurobasket.lt: Unhealthy competition has crossed all boundaries © EuroFootball.com

We announce a message from our partners portal Eurobasket.lt:

"The largest basketball portal in Lithuania, Eurobasket.lt, which has been operating without complaints for two years, was "taken off the air" on the evening of March 10th of this year. Many users of the popular website were redirected to the so-called "newest basketball website" Basketnews.lt.

Several interested sources quickly reported that the server of the Eurobasket.lt portal, which had earned the sympathies of basketball fans, players, and specialists, was disconnected due to debts, thus misinforming the basketball fans, of whom over 15 thousand visit the Eurobasket.lt website per day.

The news that the basketball enthusiasts' created Eurobasket.lt portal is permanently ending its operations disappointed many. However, the real story is quite different - the successful project Eurobasket.lt became a victim of UNFAIR competition.

The project had been targeted in advance, with the most opportune time chosen - a holiday and a weekend.

Changes were initiated by the director of the public institution "Vilnius Basketball Enthusiasts League," Dainius Savičius, who is closely associated with the activities of Basketnews.lt.

The public institution was established by five basketball enthusiasts to organize the "Eurobasket.lt Cup" tournaments in Vilnius.

The previously mentioned director completely withdrew from organizing the "Eurobasket.lt Cup" in the 2003-2004 season, leaving the burden of the tournament on the shoulders of the Eurobasket.lt project. Although the public institution was created to run the "Eurobasket.lt Cup" championship, the director, violating several workplace acts and tournament regulations, began to introduce his own rules and decided to separate from the Eurobasket.lt project.

Many of the tournament teams were deceived, as the tournament rules stated that the championship would be covered by the largest basketball portal in Lithuania, Eurobasket.lt, but the tournament director maliciously refused to provide information about the tournament progress to the portal, claiming that the Eurobasket.lt project voluntarily decided not to cover the VKML matches.

The teams that opposed the director, whose decisions were supposed to be made in consultation with the founders of the public institution, faced closed doors - thus the "Jerusalem" team was forced to withdraw from the championship due to D.Savičius' unhealthy ambitions.

Due to the recent events, Eurobasket.lt will turn to law enforcement, and legal action is being considered against UAB "Sporto tiltas" for smearing information with Eurobasket.lt, which administers the krepsinis.net and infosport.lt websites.

The chief editors of these portals allowed inaccurate information about purported debts of Eurobasket.lt to be posted on their websites, without verifying the facts.

Asked to refute this information, the chief editor did not do so, did not listen to the other side, thus violating journalistic ethics.

Eurobasket.lt apologizes to its users and regular visitors for the inconveniences and informs that the website will certainly recover. The server is currently being fixed, and checking if the database was not maliciously damaged. The project will resume work within 3-5 days.

Once again, we apologize for the dirty deeds of competitors, and we thank our friends who support us at this time.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or want to express your opinion on these events, you can write to Eurobasket.lt at the email address [email protected].
