In an early match, London's Chelsea club lost two points, playing away in a 0-0 draw with Norwich.
It was another unsuccessful match for the most expensive footballer in British history, Fernando Torres, who missed several great opportunities and is still waiting for his first goal since October of last year.
In the first half, the Spaniard was close to scoring, but his shot was deflected by John Ruddy's fingertips. After the break, luck smiled on Torres when the ball bounced straight to him in front of the opponent's goal, but the striker still managed to shoot wide.
Juan Mata also came close to scoring, but his shot was blocked by Ruddy, who played a significant role in the team earning a point.
A somewhat unexpected loss was experienced by Liverpool, fighting for a place in the top four, as they lost 1-3 away to the struggling Bolton.
The hosts had a successful first half-hour, scoring goals through Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker, taking advantage of the mistakes of the defenders. However, the visitors did not give up and reduced the deficit before the break - after a header from Andy Carroll, Craig Bellamy jumped in front of the goalkeeper and sent the ball into the net.
Nevertheless, the hopes of the Reds to at least snatch a point suffered another blow immediately after the break when Pepe Reina was beaten by Gretar Steinsson from a corner kick. Later it became clear that after this knockdown, Liverpool could not recover.
