London strategist Harry Redknapp has been acquitted in a case where he was accused of tax evasion.
The Englishman denied receiving hidden bonuses from the chairman of the board, Milan Mandaric, a few years ago while working at the "Portsmouth" club. The court acknowledged that the suspicion-causing transfer was not related to the sale of striker Peter Crouch and the victory against "Man Utd".
The accusers claimed that according to the contract, Redknapp was supposed to receive 10% of the 4 million euro profit earned from selling the football player. The coach claimed to have agreed to decrease this share to 5%, but he felt he had a "moral basis" to receive a little more.
Mandaric announced that he agreed to Redknapp's wish as a gesture of goodwill, and awarded him a bonus which was just a friendly gesture unrelated to a taxable transaction.
