Fabio Capello resigned from the position of head coach of the England national team. This decision was made after the Italian met with the officials of the Football Association (FA) of the country: chairman of the board David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne.
A few days ago, Capello publicly criticized the FA's decision to strip the team captaincy from John Terry. The London "Chelsea" defender is accused of racially insulting Anton Ferdinand, but the coach urged to wait for the court verdict, which should be announced in July.
FA officials did not hide their dissatisfaction that Capello expressed a contradictory position in the media, so they promised to seriously consider the situation. Ultimately, it was decided that after thanking the coach for his professionally done job, he should step down from his duties.
On February 29 in a friendly match against the Netherlands planned in London, the English team will likely be led by the youth (under 21 years old) national team coach Stuart Pearce.
The main contender for the position is considered to be Harry Redknapp, who leads London's "Tottenham". However, this specialist recently doubted whether he would be ready to change the nature of his work, as training takes place at the club every day, while matches are played every week, while the national team gathers only a few times a year.
Roy Hodgson, who currently leads "West Bromwich", is also mentioned as a candidate. He has been associated with the national team before, but after an unsuccessful career stage leading "Liverpool", he slightly diminished his authority.
