Sheareris: The English national team needs to forget Euro 2012 © EuroFootball.com

The new England national team coach must forget about this year's European Championship and focus on the 2014 World Cup, says former national team captain Alan Shearer.

A few days after Fabio Capello resigned, Harry Redknapp is considered the main contender to take over the team.

"Just because Capello left and the new coach is still unclear, the situation is not a bed of roses. England probably won't win the European Championship," Shearer said.

And he continued: "If we could use this tournament as an introduction for the new coach, as an opportunity to get into the job, then in a couple of years in Brazil we can expect success. It will be a big challenge."

Shearer considers Redknapp an ideal person for the national team: "He is tailor-made for this job because he understands football players, and they understand him. I would do everything to make this specialist the coach."
