The players of the "Samsunspor" football club in the top league of Turkey can consider themselves lucky. None of them died and only two were slightly injured when a train crashed into the team bus.
The incident occurred after a national championship match with "Kardemir Karabukspor", which "Samsunspor" lost 1-2. On the way home, while crossing a level crossing, the driver did not notice a train approaching at a low speed.
"I thought the barrier was up, so I wanted to cross. Then I suddenly saw the train approaching, which had not turned its lights on. I immediately pressed the accelerator pedal, so the train only caught the rear left wheel. If I hadn't seen it at the last moment, the collision would have happened right in the middle of the bus, which could have cost many lives," the driver said, although the video shows that the train had its lights on.
