Attacker Luis Suarez publicly apologized to Patrice Evra for refusing to shake hands with the defender during Saturday's match.

During the traditional greeting, the Uruguayan ignored the outstretched hand of the Frenchman and angered his opponent. Additionally, during the break, the players clashed in the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms, and after the match, Manchester's defender celebrated the victory demonstratively with his teammates in front of Suarez.

The relationship between the players has been strained since October, when Suarez racially insulted Evra and was later punished with an eight-match suspension.

"I spoke with manager Kenny Dalglish and realized that I acted wrongly. I disappointed not only the manager but also the club and its values, so I apologize. I made a mistake for which I truly regret," Suarez said in a statement.

"I should have shaken Evra's hand before the match. I would like for all of this to be forgotten, so I can focus all my attention on football."

Liverpool's managing director Ian Ayre added that the club's executives are disappointed with Suarez's behavior, but they accept his apology.
