Legendary Dutch national team forward Marco van Basten will coach his country's club from next season.
The 47-year-old specialist led his national team from 2004 to 2008 and stood at the helm of Amsterdam's "Ajax" in 2008-2009, but did not achieve major victories. Later, he worked as an expert on television.
Having signed a two-year contract, Van Basten will replace Ron Jans from July, whose contract will not be extended.
In the national championship, "Heerenveen" is in third place after 21 matches with 40 points. The club is five points behind the leaders PSV Eindhoven and "Alkmaar".
