Strategist Sir Alex Ferguson hopes that the new rules regulating the migration of young footballers will allow the club to develop more local talent.
In the Manchester team, famous English players like David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville, and Nicky Butt have matured, but recently more attention has been given to foreigners.
According to the new rules, lower league clubs will receive more funding for youth development, but as a result will have the right to demand lower compensation than before if a player under 17 is called up by a higher league team.
"I hope that once again we will be pleased with the results of well-developed players," Ferguson said.
However, lower league clubs were not so quick to rejoice. "Gillingham" chairman Paul Scally said, "They will be able to take our children paying as much as they think they are worth."
