"Arsenal" coach Wenger: let's be realistic - the Champions League season is over for us © EuroFootball.com

London strategist Arsene Wenger called the loss for the club a "tragedy". In the first Champions League round of 16 match, the English team didn't come close to the Italians, who celebrated victory with an impressive 4-0 result.

"We do not live in a dream world. The statistical chance of reaching the quarterfinals may be around 2% or 5%, but in reality we have already been eliminated from the tournament," said Wenger. "We made mistake after mistake and were punished for it."

He continued: "We couldn't find the rhythm of the game. Both in attack and defense, we played very poorly. It was painful to see how we were losing in all aspects. These are definitely the worst of our matches in European cup tournaments. It's difficult to analyze something, we need to wait until the emotions fade and we can regroup."

The Frenchman concluded optimistically: "The season is not over yet. Important FA Cup matches await us on Saturday against Sunderland, where we will have to demonstrate character and fighting spirit."

Meanwhile, "Milan" coach Massimo Allegri was left to enjoy the victory: "The match was ideal, especially in defense. We played as a team, didn't allow the opponents to create chances. We deserved this evening and the victory. These are the best matches this year.

"We could have scored more goals, it's a pity we couldn't do that. Nevertheless, in London we will have to perform no worse, because there are still another 90 minutes left, and the opponents have nothing to lose."
