Today (Tuesday) in the Lithuanian Football Federation, the meeting of the Licensing Committee took place, where decisions were made regarding the granting of licenses to Lithuanian clubs to participate in the "A League" and UEFA competitions, as stated in the LFF press release.

For the second year in a row, a licensing system has been implemented, prepared according to UEFA requirements, which are mandatory for all UEFA members. This year, 11 clubs expressed their desire to participate in the licensing process, submitting documents supporting the legal, sports, infrastructure, personnel, administrative, and financial criteria set out in the LFF football club licensing regulations to the Licensing department.

Since during the process of submitting licensing documents, "Babrungas" declined to participate in the 2005 season, the Licensing Committee considered 10 football clubs for the possibility of obtaining a license.

By decision of the Licensing Committee, licenses to participate in the "A League" club competitions organized by LFF and in all UEFA club tournaments for the 2005/2006 season were granted to Panevezys "Ekranas", "Kaunas", Marijampole "Suduva", "Siauliai", "Vilnius" and Vilnius "Vetra". Meanwhile, licenses were not granted to Klaipeda "Atlantas", "Silute", Vilnius "Zalgiris" and Kedainiai "Nevezis".

According to LFF, it is important to note that football clubs that did not receive a license in this licensing stage have the right to present missing or corrected documents to the LFF Appeals Licensing Committee. The decision of this committee is final and cannot be appealed.

The final list of clubs that received licenses will be announced on March 31, just a few days before the start of the "A League" championship. LFF hopes that the number of clubs receiving licenses will increase after the decision of the Appeals Licensing Committee.

It is worth reminding that last year, after the first stage, only four clubs received licenses, but after the appeals submitted to them, as expected, another four joined, and therefore eight teams competed in the Lithuanian championship. This season, the plans for the "A League" include 9 or 10 clubs, so the only real question mark remaining in the licensing process is likely Kedainiai "Nevezis".
