John Terry suffered an injury that will prevent him from helping the London team for about four weeks.
Due to knee problems, the Englishman will have to undergo surgery. Pessimistic forecasts stated that he would be out of action for two months, but coach Andre Villas-Boas remained optimistic.
"Four weeks would be great, but it usually takes about a month and a half," said the Portuguese coach. "Everything will depend on the results of the operation."
31-year-old Terry lost the England team captain's armband a few weeks ago due to a conflict. Because of the dispute, England team coach Fabio Capello resigned from his position.
