Fernando Torres did not receive an invitation to the Spanish national team for the first time in more than five years.
On Friday, coach Vicente Del Bosque announced the lineup of the world champions for next week's friendly match against Venezuela.
"Torres is not in good form, so we decided that in this case it would be better for him not to come," Del Bosque said. "But it doesn't mean anything. Fernando may play in the European Championship."
In the 2008 Euro tournament final, it was precisely a goal from the London forward that determined Spain's victory over Germany. However, in recent times, the 27-year-old player has not found himself in the English club and last scored in October of last year.
In the national team, Torres will be replaced by Roberto Soldado, representing "Valencia," and Iker Muniain, wearing the jersey of Bilbao "Athletic."
