FIFA plans to investigate suspicions surrounding Bahrain's national team victory in the World Cup qualifying match against Indonesia with a score of 10-0.
Bahrain's national team needed to overcome a nine-goal deficit to keep hopes of advancing to the next stage alive. Despite the favorable outcome of the victory, Bahrain withdrew from the competition as Qatar played to a draw 2-2.
"FIFA will conduct a routine investigation," said a representative. "Such a result was not foreseen, especially considering previous matches between the teams, and we aim for complete trust in the tournaments we organize."
Bahrain is coached by former England national team manager Peter Taylor.
