Over the weekend, another step will be taken towards the implementation of the goal-line technology in football.
The International Football Association Board (IFAB), responsible for rule changes, will meet in Surrey to discuss the results of eight different methods tested between September and December.
The use of the latest technological inventions aims to help the referee make a decision on whether the ball crossed the goal line. So far, this has been done "by eye", leading to numerous controversial decisions, especially when reviewing video replays on television screens.
The best-rated technologies will proceed to the second selection stage, where tests will be conducted between March and July, simulating situations that occur during matches.
Participants are required to transmit information about a ball crossing the line to the referee on a watch in about a second. In addition, accuracy standards must be met. It is predicted that this could be implemented in the 2012-2013 season.
