Andre Villas Boas will not resign from his duties, even if Chelsea fails to win any trophies in London this season. The specialist from Portugal admitted that such results would not satisfy owner Roman Abramovich, who can make drastic decisions, but the coach will not resign voluntarily.
"I would never resign, I would never give up. I am not that well-behaved," Villas Boas said. "Would I be worth staying? You have to ask the owner. Only he can decide who is worth working in the future and who is not."
So far, Abramovich has fired all the strategists who failed to add to the club's trophy cabinet.
"Of course, ending up empty-handed with such a team is a bad result. We cannot accept that, so the coaching staff must take responsibility. It happened last season, and if it happens again, a deep analysis will be needed to explain what happened," the Portuguese continued.
Villas Boas did not deny making mistakes: "The results do not match the composition of our team. We are not playing the way we should, but we can still improve until the end of the season."
However, he considers the squad of "Man City" to be significantly stronger than that of "Chelsea," and he believes that this difference can only be reduced by restricting the clubs' spending.
"I don't think we can compare these teams. The squad of Manchester is much stronger. If a club can afford to buy players from a team that competes for the highest places, something impressive can be created. Chelsea did that a bit earlier and achieved a lot. But at the moment, we cannot expect that we will buy from Man City or Man Utd," he said.
And he added: "Financial capabilities determine the choices of players. The proposed amounts are impressive, so only expenditure control can allow other clubs to compete for some players."
