London owner Roman Abramovich plans to completely rejuvenate the team's composition after the season.
According to reports in the English press, the Russian will not spare long-time team leaders: defenders John Terry and Ashley Cole, as well as forward Didier Drogba. The decision was not influenced by the impressive victory in the Champions League quarterfinal against Napoli.
"Despite the euphoria after the historic victory against Napoli, it is unlikely to affect the cancellation of radical decisions," says a source close to Abramovich. "He doesn't care what people think. Roman will do everything his way."
It is also predicted that Roberto Di Matteo, who is currently serving as the interim manager, may remain at the helm of the team. The Italian took over from the dismissed Andre Villas Boas.
