The defender has agreed to extend his contract with the club until the summer of 2007. When the contract ends, the player will be 39 years old.
The current captain of "Milan" was supposed to end his contract in June 2006, but today the Italian club announced the extension of the contract, which the player had already agreed to earlier.
The 36-year-old defender, who has represented the Italian national team 126 times, ended his national team career after the 2002 World Cup. This season he has earned praise from experts for his impressive play.
Maldini, who has represented only one club throughout his career, debuted for "Milan" back in 1985 and has won the Italian championship seven times and four UEFA Cups.
Meanwhile, the Milan club also extended the contract with their goalkeeper for two more years, silencing rumors that he would move to Spain to play for "Real" or "Barcelona" next summer. Today the player signed a new contract with the Italian champions, valid until 2008.
