Last Saturday in the match against Pakruojis "Kruoja", A. Jankauskas of Vilnius City Football League team "Žalgiris" could not help due to illness. The Žalgiris players, who were competing in Panevėžys, brought a victory injection to their sick captain, which, along with other medications, quickly cured the Žalgiris player.
"My health has improved over the weekend, so now I feel quite good. On Tuesday, I already participated in the team's training. The consequences of the illness are still felt, so it was not easy to exercise. I will be ready for the match against "Sūduva" next weekend, so if the coach needs me, I will run to the field and help my teammates," said A. Jankauskas.
The illness affected the captain's entire family. "It all started when my wife got sick. After a while, the symptoms of the illness appeared in the child. Eventually, the viral infection caught up with me, and we all got sick as a family. I had to stay in bed for three days and only felt better on Monday," the player said.
A. Jankauskas does not hide that it is easier to play in a match himself than to watch the team's game from the sidelines.
"I watched the match against "Kruoja" online. It was clear that this match was very difficult for the team. The opponents had three "deadly" opportunities, but Marius Rapalis and Luka Peričius played very reliably and managed to defend the goal.
In the first half, we failed to create dangerous attacks, but the game improved significantly in the second half. We didn't have many chances, but we had Calum Elliot, who took advantage of the opportunity and decided the outcome of the match," said the team's captain. "The game unfolded similarly to the one in Gargždai against "Banga". Of course, back then I was playing myself, now I had to watch everything from the sidelines. When you're not playing yourself, you appreciate everything differently, so I like to be on the field and try to help the team. Besides, watching matches online or on TV makes me more nervous."
Although a stronger opponent awaits on Sunday, the captain believes that the team will demonstrate a good game and fight only for victory. "This weekend, we will face an even stronger opponent - the well-started Marijampolė "Sūduva". This time we will play at home in front of our own fans, so we should perform better. As in every match, we will step onto the field to fight only for victory. Draws never satisfy us, no matter who we play against," A. Jankauskas confidently said.
