V. Slavickas: "The square of 'Žalgiris' is quite specific and unusual for us" © EuroFootball.com

Marijampolė's team "Sūduva" in the "General Financing A League" has not disappointed their fans even once - three victories have been achieved out of three possible. Fksuduva.lt spoke with the team captain Vaidas Slavickas about the good start of the season, team morale, and future opponents.

- "Sūduva" has started the season excellently - three victories have been achieved. What determined such solid results at the beginning of the season? - It was determined by the fact that the preparation for the season was very good and smooth. The most important thing was that we managed to maintain the core of the team. Furthermore, we added capable players - R. Ledesma, M. Šoblinas. They are truly high-quality footballers who made us a stronger team. We achieved good results thanks to hard work and a bit of luck.

- Would you have dared to say before the start of the championship that after three rounds you would not have lost any points? - Yes, we were determined to do so. The first match was against the champions. We really wanted to win it and we managed to do it. The second opponent, "Tauras," is not a very strong team this season, so we had to win against them. We also hoped to win at home against "Šiauliai." We prepared for that so that everything would go well. And so far, it's going well.

- Do you agree with the opinion that it is easier for a team to achieve results when the same coach leads it for a second season? - Yes. Stability is always good. Practice shows that teams that maintain the core of their players and have the same coach more often achieve good results. It may or may not be true, but most of the time those teams play better.

- You are a veteran of the team. Does the atmosphere in this year's "Sūduva" differ in any way from previous seasons? - The atmosphere is similar to last year, with many cheerful guys gathered. This maintains a good mood within the team. We joke a lot and tease each other.

- How do you rate your personal performance? - I don't know, let the coaches rate me. I always think I can play better. In my opinion, the most important thing is that the team is doing well. If one player is not doing well, others compensate for it.

- "Sūduva" is facing two different tournaments (the "General Financing A League" and the LFF Cup semi-final) matches against Vilnius' team "Žalgiris." Does the team consider any of the tournaments a priority? - We want to win both the cup and perform well in the league. We don't prioritize one over the other.

- What is your opinion about the "Žalgiris" team? - They are a strong opponent, having not lost any points yet. They have a good forward from Scotland who scored goals in all three rounds. Perhaps the coach will instruct to pay more attention to him. We haven't talked about it yet, there is still plenty of time until the match. We will play on their field, which is quite specific and unfamiliar to us. I hope everything will be fine.
