Almost four decades after Gerd Muller's record, leader Lionel Messi became the first footballer in Europe to score at least 60 goals in a season.
The 24-year-old Argentinean defeated "Zaragoza" goalkeeper twice on Saturday and helped secure a 4-1 victory.
The young forward scored 38 times in the Spanish championship, 14 goals in the Champions League, three times in the Super Cup tournament, twice in the King's Cup tournament and the Club World Cup, and once in the UEFA Super Cup.
Messi is rapidly approaching the legendary Muller, who scored 67 goals in the 1972-1973 season.
