Sir Alex Ferguson is adamant that Rio Ferdinand must be included in the England national team squad for the upcoming European Championship this summer.
The 33-year-old footballer has faced a lot of criticism this season, but recently has been showing excellent form and is one of the team leaders.
Previously, Ferguson saw six players in the national team: Michael Carrick, Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley, Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling, and Phil Jones, and now he has added Ferdinand who has recovered from injuries.
"Rio had to change his style of play. He can no longer rely on his speed as before, when he was a great athlete and could outstrip anyone," said the Scot to the Daily Mail.
"Now he chooses his position better and plays closer to the goal. Therefore, experience is the key quality, allowing Jonny Evans and goalkeeper David de Gea to improve. With Nemanja Vidic out, Rio's form is as stable as we haven't seen in a long time."
He added: "Ferdinand is an excellent central defender for the England national team. He and John Terry are the only ones with experience. If I were a coach, I would definitely choose him."
