The Executive Committee of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) officially approved the termination of the employment contract with Liutauras Varanavičius. The former long-time president of the federation, who held the position of LFF's first vice president, left his post by mutual agreement.
It was also announced that the new General Director of LFF appointed by the Executive Committee is Edvinas Eimontas, who has successfully managed various football projects for over a decade.
In the position of LFF General Director, he will replace Julius Kvedaras, who was elected president of the federation at the conference on March 17. According to the LFF statutes approved this year, as in many European countries, the General Director is appointed by the LFF Executive Committee.
36-year-old E. Eimontas has been working in the Lithuanian Football Federation since the end of 2001 and during this time has earned the trust of the football community.
"Edvinas helped launch not only one, but several large and successful projects, has good relationships with international football organizations. As a leader, he is still young, but with his qualifications and actions, he has proven that he is worthy of this position," said LFF President Julius Kvedaras.
Over the past decade, E. Eimontas has been the head of LFF's projects department: overseeing international and local projects in infrastructure, mass football, marketing, administrative activities and financial accounting reorganization, club licensing systems, and long-term football strategy creation.
"I am pleased that the work done over the past decade is already bearing fruit and we have gained the trust of the football community," said E. Eimontas. "Of course, with new responsibilities comes great accountability. New challenges and tasks lie ahead. Together with the entire football community, we have affirmed Lithuania's football strategy until 2020 and set ambitious goals."
He added that the federation faces extraordinary challenges in the near future: completing the reconstruction of the LFF stadium in the autumn and officially opening the stadium, as well as organizing the final stage of the UEFA U-19 youth football championship in our country next year.
"We will also strive to continue all other infrastructure, mass football, and other projects that we have been working on so far. As General Director, I will be responsible for the human resources of LFF, finding the organization's internal resources," said E. Eimontas.
In 2011, E. Eimontas was appointed Deputy General Director of LFF and was also elected to the Media Committee of the European Football Associations (UEFA).
By profession, E. Eimontas is a master of economics studies, graduating from Kaunas University of Technology in 2000. As an experienced football manager, he participated in and completed his UEFA Certificate in Football Management with the University of Lausanne in 2011. He is currently working towards a diploma for the second level (UEFA Diploma in Football Management).
The LFF Executive Committee also discussed the candidacy of LFF vice presidents. Recently, Romanas Levinskas, the long-time leader of the Kaunas County Football Federation, replaced Gintautas Babravičius, who recently resigned from the position of vice president.
