Messi breaks another scoring record © EuroFootball.com

Lionel Messi continues to keep record book compilers busy - the forward became the first footballer to score 28 goals in one Spanish league season at home stadium.

Such an achievement was previously held by former "Athletic" Bilbao leader Telmo Zarra and Madrid "Atletico" star Baltazar, who respectively managed to score 27 goals in the 1950-1951 and 1988-1989 seasons.

Messi surpassed this record on Tuesday, when he contributed with a precise shot to an easy 4-0 victory against "Getafe." In total, Messi scored an impressive 39 goals in 31 matches.

Close to reaching the goal in the 2010-2011 season was Real Madrid's Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo, who defeated opponents' goalkeepers at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium 26 times.
