Over the weekend, the 30th round of matches took place in the French championship. "Lyon" increased their lead over their pursuers by up to 12 points, while "Monaco" defeated "Marseille" and returned to the fight for second place.
"Lyon" secured another victory away from home by beating "Strasbourg", with the only goal of the match scored by S. Wiltord. Meanwhile, in the most interesting match of the round, "Monaco" already had a two-goal advantage over "Marseille" after the first half, and although the visitors narrowed the gap in the second half, the victory was celebrated by the Monaco team.
"PSG" achieved their third consecutive victory at home, this time forcing the unsuccessful "Auxerre" players to surrender away from home. The only goal of the match was scored by the Portuguese player P. Pauleta. For the twelfth time in a row, "Lille" played to a draw and dropped to fourth place, unable to overcome the resistance of "Saint-Etienne".
The sixth position was maintained by the "Toulouse" team, who played to a goalless draw at home against "Sochaux". The match between "Nantes" and "Ajaccio" also ended goalless, while "Caen" secured a point in the match against "Rennes".
"Bastia" achieved a rare victory, defeating "Metz" in dramatic matches in the final minute. Meanwhile, the absolute underdog "Istres" managed to hold on at home against "Nice", where Lithuanian player E. Jankauskas played from the 55th minute onwards.
