In the first Sunday Lithuanian championship match, Vilnius "Žalgiris" clinched their fifth victory by defeating Tauragė "Taura" 2-0 at their home stadium.
Before the start of the match, the footballers of both teams and the spectators paid tribute with a minute of silence to Piermario Morosini, who tragically passed away due to a heart attack in the Italian "Serie B" championship last Saturday.
The course of the duel favored "Žalgiris": the hosts took the lead in the 10th minute when Egidijus Vaitkūnas sent the ball into the net with a strong shot, and in the 85th minute, defender Luka Peričius doubled the score.
It is worth noting that the match was paused for some time as a dispute arose between the fans of both teams. The police calmed the tensions, and a few people required medical assistance.
In the standings, the players of Žalgiris (15 points) also surpassed Marijampolė's "Sūduva," who celebrated a victory last Saturday, due to a better goal difference.
Panevėžys' "Ekranas" also have the same number of points, having defeated Alytus' "Dainava" 1-0 with a minimal result. Defender Mantas Savėnas scored the winning goal for the second consecutive round.
