Coach Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that Ashley Young "exaggerated" to earn a controversial penalty in the match against Aston Villa Birmingham.
The Englishman invaded the penalty area and theatrically fell after minimal contact with Ciaran Clark. The referee pointed to the spot, and Wayne Rooney scored a precise shot from the mark to put his team ahead 1-0.
"I think he was looking for the penalty," Ferguson said. "He fell dramatically and exaggerated, but the penalty had to be given in any case."
Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish held a different opinion: "I don't think it was a foul. Ashley himself was looking to get tangled with Ciaran's leg, although he was already pulling it away. We know that Young tends to act like this, but it's a shame because we started the match quite well."
Manchester United won the game with an overwhelming score of 4-0.
