Madrid's "Real" president Florentino Perez is ready to start negotiations with the team leader Cristiano Ronaldo regarding the extension of the contract.
The team's manager is concerned about the plans of the "Manchester City" and London's "Chelsea" clubs to outbid the Portuguese, and he would like to prevent that.
Current C. Ronaldo's contract with the team is valid until 2015 and guarantees an income of 12 million euros per season. Meanwhile, F. Perez intends to offer a contract until 2017 and increase the salary by 4 million euros.
However, even if Cristiano Ronaldo signs a new contract, he would still not become the highest-paid footballer in the world - a position firmly held by Machachkala's "Anzhi" forward Samuel Eto'o (20 million euros per season).
