Strategist Pep Guardiola admits that the end of the Spanish championship is clear - trophies will be won by Madrid.
On Saturday, the capital's team defeated the Catalans 2-1 in a crucial battle at the "Camp Nou" stadium and increased their lead in the standings to seven points. Both teams have four games left to play.
"We have to congratulate the Madrid club on their victory and the trophy they secured today," Guardiola said. "We created plenty of chances, but it was not our night. Sometimes it happens when you play against a strong opponent."
"Real" goalkeeper Iker Casillas added: "Although we have to be respectful, as there are still points to be won, today we took a huge step towards the champions' trophy. We played as a team. Cristiano Ronaldo was amazing, but that can be said about the whole eleven."
This was the first failure for "Barcelona" at home after 55 games in all competitions. "Real" won against their deadly rivals in the Spanish championship for the first time in eight matches.
"Since defending the Spanish champion's cup is no longer possible, we have to focus on the Champions League," Guardiola added. "It won't be easy, as we will have to find ways to break through the 'Chelsea' defense. We have to forget about this evening and look ahead."
