Last week it was announced that in the 2012 Kaunas County LFF III league championship, like last year, 12 teams will participate. The championship is scheduled to start on May 4th.

The competition system remains unchanged: 12 teams will compete in a two-round system for the title of the strongest team in Kaunas County. In the first round, teams will play against each other once, while in the second round, six teams will compete for 1-6 places, and the remaining teams will compete for 7-12 places.

The following teams expressed their desire to participate in the 2012 KAFF championship: Kaunas teams - "Visas Labas," "Celsis," "United," "Aleksotas," "Triobet" (editor's note - "Fotofabrikas" temporarily changed its name), "Hegelmann Litauen," "Oniksas," FBK "Kaunas" (formerly FK "Fortas"), Jurbarko "Vulkanas" and "Mituva," Kėdainiai J.R. "Nevėžis-2," and Raseiniai "Danspin."

For the past few years, the home field for many KAFF championship teams has been the National Football Academy pitch. This season will be no exception. Some teams may play at the "Inkaro" stadium, and the Kėdainiai, Raseiniai, and Jurbarkas teams will once again delight their fans with football.

For the first time in the history of the championship, a large group of football fans will support one of the amateur football teams. Such "ultras" will have in their ranks the new club "Kaunas," formed on the basis of Kaunas FK "Fortas."

"We, the most active Kaunas city fans - "Kaunas ultras," counting 21 years of existence and supporting the football and baseball club "Kaunas" from the very beginning, are tired of silence, inaction, and empty promises ... we do not see real prospects for our supported team, therefore we decided not to sit idly by and to establish a new club that would represent both the city of Kaunas and the football community of Kaunas," said one of the representatives of "Kaunas Ultras."

This Friday, the team leaders will participate in drawing the schedule of the championship, after which the pairs of the first round will be revealed along with the subsequent schedule of the championship.
