The union FIFPro, which unites professional footballers, urges UEFA to demonstrate flexibility and allow players suspended for yellow cards to play in the UEFA Champions League final.
According to the current rules, a footballer who receives three yellow cards in several Champions League matches after the group stage is automatically suspended for one match.
Nevertheless, a UEFA representative assured that the rules must apply from the beginning to the end of the season, and any changes can only occur after long discussions in committees.
Such sanctions will have a significant impact on both finalists - London's Chelsea and Munich's Bayern. Due to this reason, the English team will have to manage without Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires, and Raul Meireles, while the Bayern coach will have to find replacements for Luiz Gustavo, David Alaba, and Holger Badstuber.
"Anyone who behaves unsportingly in the semifinals must be removed from the field and miss the final, but yellow cards cannot be a reason to miss the most important match of one's career," said FIFPro representative Simon Barker. "For example, Alaba slipped and the ball hit his hand - the punishment of missing the final is too severe.
"Some say that this allows footballers in the semifinals to do whatever they want, but that argument is absurd. A serious violation of the rules would result in a red card."
