The new "Šiauliai" trainer G. Jarmalavičius: "I am not a wizard" © EuroFootball.com

"Šiauliai" team, after playing nine matches this season, managed to win only two victories and collected 7 points, currently holding the seventh place in the A League standings. The new club strategist, Gediminas Jarmalavičius, hasn't had time to properly warm up his legs yet and is already facing a match against the also struggling Klaipėda "Atlantas". - Coach, what are your impressions after the first training session? - fcsiauliai.lt asked G. Jarmalavičius. Well, the first training session was more introductory in nature. Practically, all the players are well known, except for the younger ones, but Tomas Kančelskis already introduced me to them. The training session was very light, pre-match, so it's hard to draw any conclusions. I just got to know the team, that's all. - Does the current lineup match your vision of the game plan? There's probably no coach in the world for whom the lineup would be perfect. I'm no exception, but there are objective reasons for that. There are many, especially now when the team is "struggling". I think that only by joining forces we can move forward and we need to do that as quickly as possible. I believe the players are truly capable and they didn't come here to be at the bottom. I talked to the players, of course, there's still not enough time for them to bond, but I think that little by little the players will regain confidence in themselves and in each other. After all, the team should be a fist, not individual fingers that can be easily broken. - What tactical changes can we expect from the team? A provocative question, but tactics depend on both the players and the opponents. Needless to say, the tactics will inevitably change, because every coach sees football differently, so it will be reflected in the team. Order, discipline are necessary. There are three main things I mentioned to the players: hard work, sincerity, and passion for football. - Do the goals set for the team change before the season? The main and unanimous goal right now is to climb out of the pit, restore confidence in the team. We're not talking about the 8th or 9th place, but we're not talking about specific places either. Right now, the most important thing is to regain confidence and the desire to play. If we manage to get back on the path of victories, then we can talk later, there are still three rounds left. I'm not a wizard who can fix everything with a magic wand, a lot of work awaits. The team is going through a very difficult time now, there are injuries and cards, but I think these problems exist in every team, so the players on the field need to fight until the end."
