On Wednesday, May 2nd, in the 10th round of the "General Financing A League," Marijampolė's "Sūduva" football players will face Panevėžys "Ekrano" team away. Fksudva.lt briefly spoke with the head coach of the team Virginijus Liubšus after the last "Sūduva" training before the upcoming match.
The team looked very focused in training. Do you feel tension before tomorrow's match? The team is not nervous. The men know the importance of tomorrow's match, they know that we are playing against the leaders of the championship and the champions of the last four seasons. "Ekrano" lost to us, but then won 10 games in a row without conceding a goal. They are a balanced team with a good bench of substitutes. But the strength of the opponents is not an additional incentive that creates tension.
Do you think you can break "Ekrano's" streak of not conceding goals? We would like that very much. It is difficult to talk about it in advance, but we want to score. Whether we can do it, we will see in tomorrow's match.
And what does returning to play in Panevėžys mean to you personally? When you devote 25 years to a club, there are always sentiments left. But today I am in a different club and I want to achieve a lot with it. I think the men will play well tomorrow, they will be fully focused and we will see an interesting battle on the field.
How would you describe the team's physical condition? The schedule was tough, but we cannot blame it, because "Ekrano" is in the same situation. The only advantage of the opponents is that they had a longer bench of substitutes. The competition marathon was challenging for all teams, we need to endure it and play until the end. Then we can try to regain strength and recharge the players' batteries.
