At the age of 49, Rashidi Yekini, voted the best African football player, passed away after a serious illness.

A forward during his career, he helped the Nigerian national team win the continental championship and scored the first goal for his country in the final stage of the World Cup in 1994. Yekini celebrated his precise shot into the Bulgarian team's goal by running into the net, making it one of the most memorable moments of the tournament.

Yekini is still the top scorer of the Nigeria national team with 37 goals in 58 matches. He also played for clubs like Vitoria Setubal, Piraeus Olympiacos, Zurich, Sporting Gijon, among others.
