Club director Pierpaolo Marino admitted that they are interested in an Argentine player who could potentially replace David Pizarro in the future.
"Leandro Romagnoli is a player we really like. We are waiting for the right moment to acquire him. And that moment will come when we sell Pizarro," Marino said.
The 23-year-old Argentine defender Romagnoli is already a hero at his club, San Lorenzo, and is one of many South American players discovered by Udinese scouts.
Chilean Pizarro arrived in Italy in 1999 when Udinese purchased him, back when he was relatively unknown. He later had a couple of successful seasons in Serie A and caught the attention of clubs like Inter Milan, Roma, and Fiorentina. Last summer, he was on the verge of joining Fiorentina, but the deal fell through.
In December, Pizarro played very little as he refused to extend his contract with Udinese. Although he later agreed to an extension, rumors persist that he will leave the club after the season.
