"The attacking full-back of the German football giants Bayern Munich, Ze Roberto, would like to play for the Madrid club next year. The 30-year-old Brazilian, whose contract with Bayern will expire in June, does not intend to accept a 30% lower salary and therefore will not extend his contract with the multiple German champions. The Madrid club had already shown interest in the attacking left-back during the winter transfer window, and after Kiki Musampa left the Spanish club, Atletico became even more eager to acquire the former Leverkusen Bayer star. "I heard that Atletico was interested in me, but everything was unofficial," Ze Roberto told the Spanish sports newspaper Marca. "Of course I would like to play there, because it is a great club in a great country. I have already played in Madrid, but it was very short and I could not show everything I can." Brazil had an unsuccessful spell at another Madrid club, Real, in the 1997-98 season, so it seems he really wants to try to silence his critics and prove his worth once again."
