Mark van Bommel is leaving the club and returning to Eindhoven. The 35-year-old footballer joined the Italian team at the beginning of 2011, but decided to return to the Netherlands after this season due to family reasons.
With tears in his eyes, the veteran told "Milan" TV journalists: "I have to respect the wishes of my family. I have to return to the Netherlands. I will play for another year or two, and then I would like to become a coach."
Van Bommel has become the fourth experienced "Milan" player to leave the team. Just a few days ago, Alessandro Nesta, Gennaro Gattuso, and Filippo Inzaghi made similar decisions.
This season in the Italian championship, the Dutchman played 25 matches, starting in 22 of them.
