In the Lithuanian Football Federation I League, Jonava's "Lietava" club secured its dominant leader position after playing the fifth round of matches, where they crushed the "Kėdainiai" team 7:2 as visitors. With "Trakai" not playing and "Nevėžis" failing to secure a victory, "Granitas" moved up to second place, while "Palanga" celebrated their second win.
In the match between "Lietava" and "Kėdainiai", the former already had a three-goal lead after the first half, which they further increased at the start of the second half. The hosts managed to score consolation goals in the middle of the half and at the end of the match. "Lietava" scored four goals, with A.Mockus hitting the back of the net four times.
In the Vilnius derby between "Granitas" and "Polonija", the latter team led 1:0 after the break, but two goals from Arvydas Veikutis turned the match around, and Žygimantas Kirsis secured the victory for the "Granitas" team at the end of the match.
"Granitas" surpassed "Nevėžis" with 11 points, as the latter ended their match in Šilutė with a draw. Kėdainiai's chances were complicated by a late red card shown to Giedrius Klevinskas. Furthermore, Aurimas Šlušnys converted a penalty kick. In the second half, "Nevėžis" managed to grab a point thanks to captain Nerijus Kestenis' goal.
Another exciting match took place in Kaunas, where the National Football Academy team played against "Palanga". The young footballers, playing against "Palanga", were trailing by two goals and one player after 58 minutes, but they bounced back after Gratas Sirgedas converted a penalty kick and Gabrielius Judickas scored accurately. Nevertheless, an impressive goal from Andrius Paulauskas allowed "Palanga" to take home three points.
The last round match between "Trakai" and "Venta" was postponed and will be played on June 6.
