Former Portugal national team midfielder Maniche announced the end of his professional football career.

The 34-year-old veteran, who played 52 matches for the national team, has not represented any club since leaving Lisbon's Sporting in the summer of 2011.

"I played alongside amazing footballers at some of the best clubs on the planet, worked with great coaches. I feel I have achieved my goals and everything in life has its time," he said.

Maniche started his career at Benfica in Lisbon, but shined with Porto, with whom he won the UEFA Champions League in 2004. Later, the Portuguese midfielder wore the jerseys of Moscow's Dynamo, London's Chelsea, Milan's Inter, Madrid's Atletico, and Cologne.
