Former Liverpool player and coach Kenny Dalglish was officially dismissed from the position of head coach on Wednesday. The decision was made by the club owners, Fenway Sports Group, after evaluating the results of the season that just ended and the report submitted by the strategist.

In the past, the legendary Liverpool striker and coach lost his job due to unsatisfactory results in the English championship, where the 'Reds' finished only in eighth place.

Although the team won the English league cup and reached the Football Association (FA) cup final, the decision to make changes was taken. Along with Dalglish, his assistant Steve Clarke also left, albeit voluntarily.

"After a season review and long deliberation, we decided that this would be the most appropriate decision," the statement said. "The results in the Premier League were disappointing, and in order to continue progress, changes are necessary."

Dalglish himself said: "I am disappointed with the results in the English championship, but I would not have exchanged anything for the country's league cup, because I know how much joy it brought to the fans. It was an honor for me to return and coach the team again. Of course, it is sad to leave, but it is the owners' decision, and I am glad that it was done respectfully and allowed me to remain dignified. This shows the determination of these people to work with the club."

Two Spaniards, Roberto Martinez leading Wigan and former long-time Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, are immediately identified as the most realistic candidates to replace the Scottish.
