The Lithuanian national football team started preparing for the upcoming friendly matches on Wednesday. The core of the team in training is currently made up of legionnaires playing for foreign clubs.
The team's veteran, one of the oldest players of the team, goalkeeper David Cesnauskis, expressed hope that the leaders who are unable to play will be properly replaced by other footballers. "It was nice to meet everyone, interesting to see new players in the team. The team will lack leaders, but we have players from the Lithuanian championship who are in better physical shape. I think they will fill those gaps," said Cesnauskis.
According to the defender, who spent four years in Moscow clubs in the past, Russia, the future opponent of ours, has made progress in recent years: "The Russian national team has always been strong. I think they are definitely progressing. This team has really good players, their attacking line is very powerful. Huge money is being invested in Russian football."
In Kaunas, Lithuanian footballers will train until Sunday. Early tomorrow morning, the national team delegation will fly to Nyon, where they will have a match against Russia. From June 1-3, our team will play in the Baltic Cup in Estonia, and on June 7th they will play away against Belarus.
