The final composition of the Spanish national team, the reigning European and world champions, was announced for the upcoming continental tournament starting in June. Vicente Del Bosque decided to include forward Fernando Torres, despite his lackluster form that disappointed fans of London's Chelsea. Torres, along with Alvaro Negredo and Fernando Llorente, edged out Valencia striker Roberto Soldado from the list of 23 players. The national team will not include Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, who lost the competition to Iker Casillas, Pepe Reina, and Victor Valdes. 2008 European Championship winners Carlos Marchena and Joan Capdevila did not make the squad either. They were replaced by Juanfran and Javi Martinez. Experienced center-back Carles Puyol will stay home due to injury.
