C.Elliotas: I Am Glad That Football Played in Lithuania is Not So Tough © EuroFootball.com

Calum Elliot talked to the Scottish newspaper "The Scottish Sun" about the triumph of Žalgiris in the LFF Cup final.

After winning a penalty shootout against Lithuanian champions Panevėžio "Ekranas," Žalgiris won their first trophy in the past nine years. This victory continued the successful stage of Calum Elliot's career since arriving in Lithuania from Edinburgh's "Hearts."

“It was an amazing day. Žalgiris won trophies after a long break, and the journey back home was full of adventures. Team fans, delighted by joy, greeted us in the middle of the road with lights and smoke," remembers Calum. "Ekranas is the Lithuanian champions, but we deserved the victory in the final."

“That weekend was great because I could celebrate not only the trophies won by my current team but also the trophies won by my former team - Hearts. It's a pity I couldn't watch Hearts' victory in the cup final because at that time they were playing while I was in a hotel preparing for the final in Marijampolė," regrets C. Elliot.

“I have spent a lot of time in Lithuania and understand that the football style promoted in this country is different from Scotland. I adapted well to it, which is why I scored many goals. In Lithuania, I like the fact that there is not as tough physical combat as in Scotland. Players don't need to treat bruises or contusions after each game," says the top scorer of the A league championship, who scored 12 goals in 14 matches.

“Our coach from Croatia follows the right football philosophy. He helped me get used to Lithuania," says C. Elliot. “Žalgiris' sports director Mindaugas Nikoličius managed to attract me to the team. Now I can say that the decision to come to Lithuania and represent Žalgiris is the best I have ever made. Here I am alone, without my close ones, so I have learned to be independent.”

“Vladimir Romanov is associated with Lithuanian football, but he has no connection to the football team Žalgiris. I think he no longer has any interest in football at all since all his attention is focused on basketball. I had to watch him celebrate the recent trophy win on television,” says C. Elliot.
