Members of the German national team, preparing for the European Championship, visited the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Among the visitors were coach Joachim Low, captain Philipp Lahm, as well as Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski, who are of Polish descent.
"This place recalls a inhumanely cruel page of German history. It is our responsibility to remain vigilant and constantly educate young people in football clubs, so that anti-Semitism, racism, and intolerance have no place in society," said Wolfgang Niersbach, head of the German Football Association.
During World War II, in the Auschwitz concentration camp, German Nazis killed over a million people, 90% of whom were Jews.
In the upcoming European Championship, the Germans will play in Group B alongside Denmark, the Netherlands, and Portugal. The matches will take place in the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Lviv.
