Lithuanians hope for a victory for Spain in the European Football Championship © EuroFootball.com

Starting on Friday and lasting for three weeks, the European football fiesta should end with victory for the Spanish national team. Lithuanians are convinced of this, although the majority of Europeans predict the trophy for the Dutch.

According to data from the European online betting company "Unibet," about 41% of Lithuanians bet on a Spanish victory in the championship. Slightly less – 36.5% – believe in Germany, while 19.4% support the Dutch team.

"The opinion of Lithuanians coincides with the predictions of bookmakers. However, analyzing the bets of Europeans, we notice that the Dutch and German teams are the most favored, while the Spaniards are only predicted to finish third," said "Unibet" representative Anthony Cousins.

"Unibet" gives the highest probability – 26% – for Spain to win the "Euro2012" tournament. The chances for Germany and the Netherlands are respectively estimated at 25% and 13%. The chances of the tournament's hosts – Poland and Ukraine – to win the trophy are very low, at just 2.5% and 1.7% respectively. Ireland and Greece are considered outsiders.

Even more intrigue is added by bets on who will be the top scorer of the championship. After a highly successful season, the Dutch forward Robin Van Persie is highly rated. Football fans also expect many goals from Polish Robert Lewandowski, German Mario Gomez, and Spaniard Fernando Torres.

The European Football Championship is one of the most important events for bookmakers. On this occasion, "Unibet" offers over 1,600 bets. Among them are such unconventional bets as which stadium will witness the most goals, which referee will show the most cards, the age of the player who will score the last goal of the tournament, and others.

The European Football Championship in Poland and Ukraine will start on June 8 and will last until July 1.
