Bert van Marwijk, coach of the Dutch national team, did not hide his dissatisfaction with the referee's failure to award a penalty in the match against Denmark.
The Dutch dominated and even had 29 shots on goal, but suffered a shocking 0-1 defeat.
In the second half, the Danish team was saved by the referee, who did not award a penalty after Lars Jacobsen handled the ball in the penalty area.
"The penalty was clear, and it probably would have resulted in a draw," the specialist said. "When such situations do not work out in your favor, you have to admit that things aren't going well. But that's part of football."
He continued: "Four, five, or six players from both teams, as well as the referee, had opportunities. But we couldn't capitalize on them.
"We won't give up, but it's clear that in the next match we have to beat Germany. We've proven that we can play good football and create chances, and we've already beaten the Germans before. It won't be easy, but the goal is clear."
Meanwhile, Danish coach Morten Olsen said that the victory was well-deserved.
"You saw a Danish team that was overall better, and in the last 10 minutes, they also showed physical superiority - which is very important," said the specialist coaching the national team for 12 years. "Before the match, we said that if we want to beat one of the favorites, we have to demonstrate good individual and team play. And that's what happened.
"Of course, the Dutch had chances, but so did we. It's very important that we showed why we made it to the European Championship."
