On Monday evening, in the second round of group D matches, the Ukrainian national team led by Andriy Shevchenko defeated the Swedes with Zlatan Ibrahimović with a score of 2-1.
The hosts of Euro 2012, who achieved their first victory in the history of the European Championships, became the sole leaders of their group, as before that England and France had drawn 1-1.
In the first half no goals were scored, although both teams had good chances to score - Ibrahimović hit the post, while the Ukrainians' shots lacked accuracy.
After the break, Milan's Swedish striker Ibrahimović scored a close-range goal, putting his country ahead temporarily. However, just three minutes later, the 35-year-old Ukrainian legend Andriy Shevchenko outpaced a defender and headed in a cross from the flank, restoring balance - 1-1.
Shortly after that, the ball once again found the back of the net guarded by Andreas Isaksson - the same Shevchenko, this time with a header after a corner kick, put his team ahead.
Just before the referee's final whistle, Erik Hamrén's players had the opportunity to equalize the score, but dangerous attacks from substitute Johan Elmander and Olof Mellberg flew over the crossbar.
