Legionnaire from Brazil does not deny that he may represent the England national team. The Brazilian national team never invited Edu to represent the country.
In FIFA rules, it is stipulated that a player can obtain the citizenship of a foreign country if he has lived and played there for at least 2 years. There is also a condition that the player must not have previously played for another country's team.
The left-back position in which Edu plays is a pressing issue for the England national team.
"I hope to be invited to play for my native country someday. But I also know that a realistic possibility is that I will play for England and I am considering it. Of course, England has many great defenders and it would be difficult for me to break into the team," the player said. "People say that there are no left-backs in the England team and that is a problem. I have something to think about. If the Brazilian national team does not invite me, then why not? I am 25 years old, so I hope to continue playing football for a long time. Playing for Brazil would be just as big of an event as playing for England," he continued.
