Dutch national team coach Bert van Marwijk criticized his players' defense after losing to Germany, but did not lose hope of reaching the quarterfinals.
The planet's vice-champions lost both of their first two matches in Group B, but in case of a victory against Portugal, they can hope to take the second spot in the group. However, for that to happen, the Germans need to beat the Danes and have a better goal difference.
"Quite simply, we defended very poorly," he said. "The defensive and midfield players did not understand each other. The physical condition of some players is definitely not good."
And he added: "In the second half, with a bit of luck, we could have scored a second goal. But in order to beat Germany, we need to play excellently."
About the chances of reaching the knockout stages, van Marwijk said: "The tournament is not over for us yet. I do not believe that Germany will relax in the match against Denmark, as it does not happen at this level. We will have to make an effort to defeat Portugal 2-0."
